Off The Beaten Track

Although the first francophone settlement was in Saint-Boniface, areas of the province saw the development of small rural francophone communities, many carrying the names of the origins of their settlers: Saint-Malo, Saint-Claude, Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Saint-Léon, and so on.

Mainly farming communities, they are all unique and love visitors. If you wish to extend your discovery of Manitoba’s rich francophone history beyond the borders of Saint-Boniface, we invite you to wander down some lesser-known paths and discover rural gems in the province’s French-speaking communities.
